Industrial Support
The PGI course received a large amount of support from organisations within the animal breeding industry who were consulted throughout the development process. This included individuals and representatives from animal breeding companies who saw the great advantages of PGI and intend to personally participate or enrol their staff in the programme.

Financial Support
Working to improve the coordination of the use of genetic and genomics technologies by the livestock breeding and animal health industries, Biosciences Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) organises and promotes relevant training activities. The company has invested finance as well as expertise towards the development of PGI, funding a £10,000 pilot lecture.

The BBSRC (Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council) has made considerable contributions to the cost of development of PGI. The course addresses relevant BBSRC priorities in a sector where the UK is both academically and industrially strong, but where there are significant skill shortages.
